User Interface (UI)
Bartender4
A comprehensive action bar replacement that lets you fully customize your ability bars. Bartender4 replaces the default action bars, allowing you to move, scale, and arrange buttons freely for a cleaner UI. It’s essential for tailoring your interface to your playstyle, putting all your important abilities exactly where you want them.
X-Perl UnitFrames
A complete replacement for Blizzard’s default unit frames (player, party, target, raid, etc.), offering a more informative and customizable layout. X-Perl provides enhanced visuals and additional data (like buffs, debuffs, and raid tools) on unit frames, helping players keep better track of health, mana, and statuses of themselves and their group.
Titan Panel
Adds one or two information bars to the top and/or bottom of your screen, providing a quick glance at useful stats and info. Titan Panel serves as a plugin framework, showing data like coordinates, gold, performance (FPS/latency), and other plugin modules. It’s great for decluttering the rest of your UI by moving various info readouts to a convenient bar.
Bagnon
An inventory management addon that merges all your bags into a single large bag window. Instead of checking multiple bag slots, Bagnon presents one organized inventory, with features like search and color-coded item rarity. This makes it much easier to find items and manage inventory across your character (it even tracks items on other characters).
MoveAnything
As the name suggests, this addon allows you to move, scale, or hide any UI element on your screen. MoveAnything gives you complete control over the positioning of UI components (action bars, unit frames, quest tracker, etc.), enabling a truly customized interface. It’s ideal for fine-tuning your layout or accommodating other addons by rearranging default UI elements.
PvE (Raiding & Dungeons)
Deadly Boss Mods (DBM)
A must-have raiding addon that provides timers, warnings, and alerts for boss abilities and raid mechanics. DBM essentially keeps you informed of upcoming boss attacks or phase changes (e.g., a special attack in 10 seconds, or when to move) so you can react appropriately. Whether you’re fighting the Lich King or any dungeon boss, DBM ensures you’re always prepared for the next event.
Recount
A detailed damage and healing meter that tracks everyone’s performance in your group. Recount displays real-time DPS, healing, damage taken, and other metrics in a customizable window. It’s very useful after fights to analyze your performance, see how you compare to others, and identify areas for improvement or moments of high damage taken, etc. (helping raid leaders and players optimize their gameplay).
Omen Threat Meter
A threat monitoring addon that shows the threat levels of all party/raid members on your current target, helping manage aggro. Omen is critical for tanks to see if anyone is in danger of pulling threat, and for DPS to know when to slow down damage. It provides real-time visual bars for each player’s threat percentage on the enemy, ensuring tanks keep enemies’ attention and DPS/healers avoid unintentionally attracting aggro.
HealBot
A specialized unit frame addon for healers that allows mouse-click casting on frames, making healing in groups much more efficient. HealBot lets you bind different healing or dispel spells to mouse clicks (for example, Left-click on a name to cast a heal, right-click for a different spell, etc.), so you can heal allies simply by clicking their name on HealBot’s frames. It also displays health, debuffs, and range, acting as both a raid frame and a casting aid, greatly simplifying the healer’s job in raids and dungeons.
Decursive
A small but powerful addon that streamlines dispelling of debuffs (curses, poisons, magic, etc.) on your group. Decursive provides a little set of unit buttons or uses an alert system to highlight players who are afflicted by something you can dispel. With a single click or key press, you can cleanse an ally without manually targeting them. This addon is especially useful for classes that can remove debuffs (mages, druids, paladins, priests, etc.), making affliction removal easy and efficient during raids where dispelling quickly is critical.
PvP
Gladius
An arena frames addon that adds enemy unit frames for arena matches, displaying important information about your opponents. Gladius shows health, mana, class, and even cooldown/trinket status of enemy arena players in a compact frame, allowing quick targeting and focus. It’s highly configurable and is practically essential for serious arena players in WotLK, as it helps you react to your opponents’ status and abilities.
Healers Have To Die (H.H.T.D.)
A PvP-focused addon that identifies enemy healers in battlegrounds and arenas by prominently marking them, so your team can focus fire on them. H.H.T.D. places a visible symbol (a red cross by default) above the nameplates of players detected as healers, making them easy to spot amidst the chaos. It can also play an alert sound or print a message when an enemy healer is nearby. This helps coordinate targeting the most crucial PvP targets (the healers), which can quickly turn the tide of battle.
LoseControl
A handy addon that displays crowd control effects (stuns, fears, silences, etc.) affecting you (or your target/focus) as a big icon with a timer. In PvP, knowing exactly how long you’ll be stunned or how long an enemy will be incapacitated is vital. LoseControl puts an icon in the middle of your screen (or on unit frames) showing the remaining duration of any CC on you, your target, party members, or arena enemies. This visual cue ensures you never miss when a crowd control effect is ending, helping you respond immediately when you regain control of your character.
InterruptBar
A lightweight addon that tracks the cooldown of enemy interrupt abilities on a small bar. Whenever an enemy uses an interrupt (like Kick, Pummel, Counterspell, etc.) in arenas or battlegrounds, InterruptBar will show a timer bar for that ability so you know when it will be available to them again. This is particularly useful in PvP to know if an enemy’s interrupt is on cooldown, allowing healers to cast safely or casters to know when they might be interrupted next. It’s a simple tool that provides crucial information for timing your spells against other players.
Quality of Life (General Enhancements)
AtlasLoot Enhanced
A database addon that lets you view loot tables in-game for raids, dungeons, and other content. AtlasLoot provides a quick way to look up which bosses drop which items, check faction vendor rewards, PvP gear, or even crafting recipes, all without leaving the game. It’s perfect for planning your gear upgrades or simply satisfying curiosity about what loot comes from where – for example, you can easily find out which boss in Naxxramas drops a specific armor set piece and see its stats.
GearScore
A utility that calculates and displays a “gear score” for players based on the quality and level of their equipment. In WotLK, GearScore became a popular way to gauge a character’s gear strength at a glance. This addon adds a numeric score to player tooltips (and sometimes in group or raid lists) summarizing how good their gear is. It’s useful for quickly evaluating if players meet gear expectations for raids, or for personal bragging rights. (While not an absolute measure of skill, many used GearScore as a rough benchmark for raid readiness in 3.3.5a.)
Auctioneer
A classic auction house addon that greatly improves the auction interface by scanning market prices and providing item valuation data. Auctioneer collects pricing data from the Auction House and when you mouse over an item, it shows an informed estimate of the item’s value and historical prices. It also adds tools to easily post multiple items, find good deals, and make decisions on buying/selling items. For anyone doing a lot of buying or selling in-game, this addon is indispensable for maximizing profit and saving time in the economy.
Postal
Enhances the in-game mailbox with quality-of-life features for sending and receiving mail. Postal adds functions like opening all mails with one click, a contact list for easily sending mail to frequent characters, and other mailbox improvements. This means if you have a mailbox full of auction sales or attachments, you can retrieve everything quickly instead of clicking each mail one by one. It basically streamlines the mail system, which is a big time-saver for auctioneers and anyone who mails items regularly.
Gatherer
A must-have for gathering professions, this addon tracks and remembers the locations of herbs, mines, and other resource nodes on your map. Whenever you (or your guildmates, if sharing is enabled) gather a herb or mine a vein, Gatherer records that location. Over time, you’ll accumulate a map of all potential spawn points for resources. It displays icons on the world map and minimap for those locations, helping miners, herbalists, and treasure hunters route their farming runs efficiently by knowing where nodes can be found.
Leveling & Questing
QuestHelper
An addon that simplifies leveling by pointing you to where you need to go for your quests and planning an optimal route. QuestHelper shows quest objectives on the map and an arrow directing you to the next closest objective, calculating the most efficient path to complete multiple quests in an area. It takes the guesswork out of questing by telling you exactly where to go and in what order, which speeds up leveling considerably and helps ensure you don’t overlook any quest requirements.
Carbonite
A multifunctional map and quest addon that replaces the normal map with an enhanced version, integrates quest tracking, and even includes a database of locations. Carbonite offers an all-in-one solution with an upgraded map that can zoom, pan, and show quests, plus it can track quest progress, show nearby quest givers, and incorporate other info like track herbs/mines. It’s highly customizable and is perfect for players who want a combined map + quest HUD, often with a smaller movable map on screen. (It was a popular alternative to using QuestHelper + separate map coords, as Carbonite does a bit of everything in one.)
TomTom
A simple navigation assistant that lets you set waypoints on your map and provides a coordinate display and directional arrow. TomTom is essentially a GPS for WoW – you can /way [coords] or click on the map to set a waypoint, and it will show an arrow pointing you toward that location along with the distance. This is extremely useful in WotLK for following coordinates from quest guides or addons like QuestHelper/Carbonite. It also displays your current coordinates, which helps when you need to share or find specific locations.
LightHeaded
A quest help addon that attaches a window to your quest log, showing comments and information from Wowhead for each quest. When you open a quest in your log, LightHeaded displays user comments (from the WotLK era Wowhead database) that often contain hints, coordinates, or walkthroughs for that quest. This means you don’t need to tab out to a browser to read quest tips – they’re right there in-game. It’s great for finding those tricky quest objectives or getting additional insight (like spawn locations or drop rates), thus easing the leveling process by leveraging community knowledge.
